The Main Event
The first ever Pinoy Bloggers Outreach was held last January 8 at White Cross Children's Home.
We arrived at around 2pm. A total of 12 volunteers, 10 bloggers and 2 non-blogger friends. Mostly I met for the first time but it felt like we've known each other for a long time. We were not assigned roles or anything but I was surprised that when all the supplies arrived, we all acted as one and finished decorating the place and organizing stuff in no time.
It was fun when the kids started coming out. I guess their ages range from 4 to 7. At first, there were a few boys and only one girl at the area. I approached the little girl and was so touched when she immediately hugged me. Her name was Joy. And she kept calling me "mama". I was overwhelmed and really I wanted to take her home with me.
Me and my little bundle of "Joy" |
Christian (Senyor of Iskwater Stories) hosted the program that started with a short prayer from Arline (of Pinkline). And it was followed by games like The Boat is Sinking, Bring Me and Trip to Jerusalem. It was a bit tough but totally fun to conduct games for kids as young as them because they have real short attention span and they get easily distracted. Plus they all want prizes. We had to come out with several winners just to end a game.
And oh, let's not forget the dance number of the three clowns who brought smiles to the kids' faces for their not-so-synchronized moves, lol. But these talented trio also did the fake tattoos and twisted balloons for the kids.
And throughout the event, we also had the online presence and support of two important persons, Vice Presidents Gracie (of Gracie's Network) and Arvin (of Chateau de Archieviner).
Of course, the kids got tired and hungry so we then served food. It was heart melting to see my co-volunteers fed the kids like they were their own.
Before we ended the event, we had a group picture with the kids. Then we joined the kids as they go back to their rooms and had a quick tour around the orphanage. We saw younger kids and babies and they are all so adorable too.
The After Party
We went to Rob Galleria for an early dinner and a quick meeting for our next project.
Voting for the new president -- winner: Zaicy! |
And since it seems like we can't get enough of each other, we also had coffee at Starbucks. And a round of drinks at Metrowalk.
Coffee Treat by Mar. Thanks! |
Margarita from Senyor. Thanks! |
See you on the next PBO, guys! Much Love.
